We don't claim to be organic. Why?

Our chickens primary food is USDA Certified Organic laying mash.

However, remember that they are truly freely ranging. The chickens occasionally sneak into the horse paddock and steal some food from the horses. When we take our compost out, they enjoy the treat of kitchen scraps from the food we prepare for our family. They eat bugs that may have hopped or flown over from a neighboring farm. All of this means we can't claim to be 100% organic, just pretty darn close.

In order to claim 100% organic, we'd have to lock them in, and not let them eat anything except their laying mash. We think they deserve more than a boring  daily bowl of gruel, and the varied diet helps ensure that the chickens are healthy and the eggs they produce are tasty & nutritious.
